Fall is a fun and exciting time of year, especially because the holidays are quickly approaching and the weather is changing. Fall is also a great time of year to think of your smile. So, if possible, our dentist, Dr. Roger Anderson, strongly encourages you to do all you can to ensure strong and healthy teeth and gums this fall. To help you do so, he recommends doing a couple things.

First, clean your smile regularly by keeping up on oral hygiene. To do so, you can brush your teeth every morning and night, floss your smile before bed, rinse your mouth daily, and visit your dentist for a dental checkup if you’re due for one. These things can help you have a strong and healthy smile. As you clean your teeth and gums, please remember to use oral hygiene products that have been tested and approved by the American Dental Association.

Second, wear a mouthguard if you play fall sports. A mouthguard is a reliable and strong appliance that can protect your jaw, teeth, and gums when hard, forceful objects hit your mouth. If you don’t wear a guard, there is a good chance you could suffer an oral injury, like knocked-out, cracked, or broken teeth when you get hit by elbows, knees, helmets, and other hard objects. So, remember to always wear a mouthguard while you’re participating in fall sports.
