Your premolars and molars–the teeth in the back of your smile–are needed to perform the daily function of chewing and grinding your food. If you have a cavity that develops on a back tooth, you may noticed heightened tooth sensitivity, changes in the texture of the tooth, or pain when biting down.

Early detection enables Dr. Roger Anderson to repair the cavity with a simple treatment such as a filling. If the cavity has left a large void in the molar, our dentist may recommend filling the area with an amalgam dental filling.

Amalgam fillings are a special blend of dental-grade metals and are known for their long-lasting durability, which makes them an excellent option to treating many cases of tooth decay in molars and premolars.

To place an amalgam filling, our dentist applies the amalgam while it’s in a soft state so that is can be easily shaped to fit the tooth. Once shaped, he cures it with a special ultraviolet light and bonds the filling to the natural tooth enamel so that it can support and strengthen the tooth for many years into the future.

If you have noticed that you have a tooth suffering from a large cavity, we encourage you to not delay contacting Roger Anderson DDS at 303-232-6205 and scheduling an appointment with our dentist.
