Preventive care is key to keeping your smile healthy and avoiding dental problems. Dr. Roger Anderson and his team are very aware of the importance of preventive care, and work with you to help you be proactive in maintaining your oral health and preventing dental problems from developing.

Preventive care includes both the regular dental care you receive at our practice as well as your oral hygiene routine at home. The goal of preventive care is to protect your smile from the damage caused by tooth decay, periodontal disease and other harmful dental conditions. While accidents do occur, many dental problems can be avoided by simply maintaining good home care routines and continuing to visit the dentist regularly for professional cleanings and exams and other preventive treatments, such as sealants and fluoride. This ensures that Dr. Roger Anderson can detect and treat developing problems as early as possible, before the damage becomes more extensive and more serious and expensive restorative treatments are needed.

Here are a few steps you can take to minimize your risk of developing dental problems:

  • Brush and floss daily. You should floss at least once a day, and should brush at least twice each day. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoridated toothpaste.

  • Visit the dentist at least twice each year for dental cleanings and exams.

  • Maintain a balanced, healthy diet. Limit the amount of sugary and acidic foods and beverages that you consume.

  • Ask Dr. Roger Anderson about other preventive treatments, such as dental sealants and fluoride. If you play sports, ask about our preventive measures such as athletic mouth guards.
